Beginner Watercolour Workshop

  • The London Art Bar 300 High Holborn London, England, WC1V United Kingdom (map)

Dive into the magical world of watercolour painting with adorable storybook animals at our fun workshop hosted by Annie Dalton (Daltonsart).

Ever wanted to create a charming, anthropomorphic animal? This fun watercolour workshop in London invites you to design your own storybook-style character -- think foxes in scarves, mice in jackets, or hedgehogs full of personality. Inspired by classic Beatrix Potter–style illustration, the focus is on charm, character, and storytelling.

This session is designed especially for beginners, including those who’ve never picked up a paintbrush or haven’t drawn since school. Everything is explained step by step in a relaxed, encouraging environment, so you can let go of pressure and enjoy experimenting.

What to expect:

  • Learn how to draw animals using simple shapes.

  • Turn those shapes into expressive, anthropomorphic characters.

  • Add clothing and details to give your animal personality.

  • Beginner-friendly watercolour techniques, including washes, layering, and adding detail.

  • A loose, playful approach inspired by classic storybook illustration.

  • Create an original animal character of your own!

By the end of the workshop, you’ll leave with your own finished watercolour animal illustration, new creative skills, and the confidence to keep drawing and painting at home. It’s a low-pressure introduction to character illustration and a lovely way to reconnect with creativity!

🖌️ Please note

Each session is limited to just 20 people to keep the workshop friendly, relaxed, and beginner-focused.

This workshop teaches general techniques inspired by public-domain storybook artwork. All participants create original animal characters, not copies of existing illustrations.
